The procedure for applying to USPS is as follows:

  • Choose your career path: While there are various positions to choose from, there are a few conditions which must be fulfilled by any prospective employee:
  1. a) You must be above the age of 18.
  2. b) You must be a permanent resident of the US.
  3. c) Your criminal background, drug screening, and medical assessment must be clear along with a safe driving record.
  4. d) While most of the general positions offered by the USPS some specific positions would require a college degree.
  5. e) If you have a stable employment history, you are likely to have an upper hand over the other competitors. If your record shows the presence of misconduct or lateness, your application may not be considered.
  • Choosing between the corporate or operations position: The requirements differ based on the type of position you apply for. If you require an office-based position, you must apply for a corporate position. On the other hand, if you apply for the delivery or the operation position, they will involve physical labor. The accounting, finance, and marketing positions are a part of the corporate careers while custodian, engineer, or mail handler positions are a part of operational careers.
  • Creating an account: The applications of USPS are mostly online. For this, you must create an account with a username and password. On the creation of the account, you must update the details of your resume such as your education, skills, and work experience. As a part of the application, your work experience over the last seven years is necessary.
  • Finally, you must take an exam according to the position you wish to apply for. On obtaining the qualifying marks, you will be deemed eligible.
  • The final step involves a background check before being hired for the said position.
